The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced that its 17th annual All Nigerian Editors’ Conference (ANEC) will be holding in Abuja between October 21 and 22.

This was disclosed on Sunday in a statement jointly signed by the NGE President, Mustapha Isah and its Secretary General, Iyobosa Uwugiaren.

The NGE is a non governmental, non-partisan, non profit making organization, for the highest strata of working journalists who have attained the exalted position of editors in the journalism profession.

The Guild was established in 1961 to advance the interests of the profession, deepen editors’ relationships with their various publics ranging from the media itself, to governments, professional and trade associations and other groups that make up civil society.

Formerly known as the Guild of Newspaper Editors of Nigeria, NGE is aimed a serving as an exclusive club of professional news managers where editors as the ultimate gatekeepers on media content could come together seasonally to interrogate issues of professional media practice unfettered by labour matters.

In addition, it was also created to provide a rallying forum for the editorial leaders in the Nigerian journalism profession in order have a professional path for the industry’s growth. At the time of its inception, Nigeria had just emerged from the cauldron of colonialism and the country needed the support of leaders in the various professions to grow.

The theme of this year’s conference, according to the statement, is entitled “Media In Times of Crisis: Resolving Conflict, Achieving Consensus”.

The statement also noted that the scheduling of the annual conference was among the decisions it reached at a meeting of its Standing Committee last week in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
