Activists like Sunday Igboho and Nnamdi Kanu, according to Peter Obi, a former Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, are more popular than politicians.
According to Obi, Nigerians’ lack of hope has made Igboho and Kanu more popular in the Southwest and Southeast than politicians.
The former Anambra State governor, speaking at an event titled “National Security Challenge: Youths Neglect?” in Abuja, underlined that Nigerians now have control over the economy.
In the South West, Sunday Igboho is considerably more popular than all the politicians combined,” Obi says.
“Nnamdi Kanu is considerably more popular in the South East than all of the politicians together.”
“Because when you speak about separation and everything, you’ve pushed people to the point where they no longer have hope, which is what drives the economy and what motivates people to live in a nation.”
Igboho and Kanu have both advocated for Nigeria’s disintegration. However, security officers in Nigeria and Benin Republic have detained both agitators. While Beninese security officers are holding Igboho, Kanu is being held by Nigeria’s Department of State Services, or DSS.Meanwhile, the IPOB leader is scheduled to appear in front of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday to continue his trial.
