An Ogun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta, Thursday, ordered that a couple, Kehinde Oladimeji, (43) and Adejumoke Raji, (35), arrested with human parts, be kept at Oba and Ibara Correctional Centres, respectively.
The couple, residing at 72, MKO Abiola Way, Leme area of the Ogun State capital, were arraigned over the murder of one, Ife Adeh, a 22-year-old friend of the wife.
The defendants were being tried for alleged conspiracy and murder.
Magistrate I. O Abudu, who had earlier refused to take the plea of the defendants, ordered that they be remanded, pending legal advice from the Ogun State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The Police Prosecution Counsel, Ms Oluwatosin Jackson, had earlier told the court that the defendants committed the offence on January 12.
According to Jackson, the duo had conspired and murdered Odeh, who she confirmed was a close friend to Adejumoke.
The prosecutor explained to the court that Adejumoke invited the victim to her house and prepared noodles laced with a sleeping substance.
She said that, “while the deceased slept off after the meal, Adejumoke allegedly strangled her, butchered her body, and sold the head for N70,000 to one ritualist at Ibadan.”
Jackson informed the court that the stench oozing out of the remaining part of the dismembered body in the woman’s room, attracted neighbours, who invited the police.
The offence, according to the prosecutor, contravenes Sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.
The court has since adjourned the case till April 29 for mention.
