Fulfil 35% Affirmative Action On Women Appointment, Participation In Politics – Group To FG

For Nigeria to get it right on Women’s Political and Administrative Rights, the federal government must agree on the 35 Percent affirmative actions on their participation and appointments in politics.

The observation was made by the Manager Governance, ActionAid, Mr Celestine Okwudiii Odo in an address in Kano to mark the International Women’s Day in conjunction with the Centre for Communication and Social Impact (CCSI).

The theme of the programme which attracted women from all walks of life was ”Gender Equality today for Sustainable Tomorrow”.

Odo said Women and Youth Inclusion and participation mean equality in the representation of Women and Youth in both numbers and at the level of decision making.

He said, “For our emerging democracy in Nigeria to be sustainable, all groups within the population must be actively involved in the governance process and their voices must be heard. And their experiences and expertise utilised for optimal growth and development of the Country.

“We must rise to break the bias that hitherto limits women participation in politics and governance process

Mr Odo, however, said the campaign for the inclusion of women and young people in politics and governance processes called for greater participation of women in politics and Governance”.

He said it is high time Nigerians wake up from their slumber and break the biases against women and young people’s participation in governing Nigeria.
