A former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Akin Ogunbiyi has warned the people of the State not to choose a clueless leader to run the affairs of the State.
Ogunbiyi gave the warning on Monday during a summit organised by the Civil Society Committee for Anti-fraud Election Security in Osogbo.
Ogunbiyi, who revealed that one of the candidates contesting to become the governor of the State was allegedly a secondary school dropout, advised the electorates not to allow such to become governor of the State.
The insurance magnate urged the people of Osun to do all within their power to elect a credible candidate so as to change the fortune of the State.
According to Ogunbiyi, “The problem in Osun is not civil service, it is not the infrastructure, it is about making Osun an industrialised State. It was the vision of the founding fathers to make Osun an industrialised State, but that is yet to happen.
“The only thing to make a change to happen is to elect credible leaders. Do everything within your power to have a credible election in Osun State.”
Ogunbiyi, who recently dumped the PDP, also declared at the event that he would contest in the July 16 Osun gubernatorial election.
“I want to participate in the governorship election in Osun State. I am presenting myself to the people of Osun and I want to say that I did not say that you must support anybody but present a level playing ground for all to allow a credible leader to emerge,” he said.
Ogunbiyi, in his resignation letter, had accused the PDP of bias in the handling of the gubernatorial primary election and the selection of Ademola Adeleke as its gubernatorial candidate in the Saturday, July 16, gubernatorial election in Osun State.
He also indicated that he would join another political party in the coming days.
