Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has insisted that Antonio Rudiger reminds him of former Chelsea defender, David Luiz.

Merson said this while reacting to Rudiger’s impending departure from Chelsea this summer.

He said that the Germany international will be a massive loss for Chelsea.

Rudiger is closing in on a free transfer to LaLiga champions, Real Madrid.

The 29-year-old also attracted attention from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

But the centre-back, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, will sign a four-year deal with Real Madrid.

“Rudiger will be a massive loss, I can’t express how big that is going to be,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“If Chelsea played a four at the back, he would not be missed. He can only go and play somewhere in a three.

“He reminds me of a David Luiz – he will go and chase the ball, close down, go out of position – but in a three he can go and take that chance.”
