Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, plans to fire approximately half of Twitter’s employees worldwide.

The software tycoon, who bought the business in late October, has made significant changes to the platform’s management ever since.

Employees of Twitter were informed via email on Thursday night that layoffs would start immediately and that those who have been dismissed should not report to work on Friday, according to the New York Times.

The message said, in part, “We will go through the challenging process of decreasing our worldwide labor force in an effort to put Twitter on a healthy path.

“We acknowledge that this will have an impact on a number of people who have contributed greatly to Twitter, but this step is regrettably required to ensure the company’s success going forward.”

Bloomberg also claimed on Thursday, citing unnamed sources, that Musk intended to change the company’s current work-from-anywhere policy in addition to letting go of half of its employees.

Major corporate executives, including the former CEO Parag Agrawal, the Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, the Chief Legal Officer Vijaya Gadde, and the General Counsel Sean Edgett, have already been fired by Musk.
