An online movie streaming platform, IBAKATV, has introduced a new system of movie distribution and free data, for its subscribers to enjoy a ‘unique experience in movie downloads and streaming’.
Speaking at a media parley, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Blessed Idornigie, noted that the platform was constantly looking for ways to make it easier for their subscribers to access, download and stream movies easily.
He said, “As of today, for customers to access movies on streaming platforms such as ours, they need to subscribe for Internet data, as well as subscribe for our service. But, we observed over time that many customers find it difficult to stream movies because of the cost of content consumption. The issue is not the cost of subscription, but the cost. One of the biggest challenges we found out was that despite how big Nollywood is in terms of content generation, it has not translated into high revenue for the industry. We then realised that until we have robust market penetration, the industry will not fare well in terms of revenue generation.”
He added that the company had struck up a partnership with two telecommunications companies to provide free data for customers. He said, “We came up with an innovation and partnered with Globacom and MTN. The innovation is the new product we have just launched. Anyone who subscribes for any of our packages will have access to watch premium movies and unrestricted free data.
“I have to emphasise that the data is unrestricted. Subscribers can use it to watch movies, as well as surf the Internet. They have 100 per cent control over the data.”
Idonijie added that the firm had also introduced a reseller app, where agents can sell subscription vouchers and make a commission.
