Victor Osimhen has responded to the recent TikTok videos and controversy involving him and Napoli. Osimhen’s agent, Roberto Calenda, expressed his frustration after Napoli posted two TikTok videos mocking the Nigerian striker for missing a penalty in a league match against Bologna.

As a result, Osimhen removed all images of himself in a Napoli jersey from his social media profiles and celebrated his goals in a more subdued manner over the past week. Napoli later issued a statement clarifying that the videos were not meant to be disrespectful.

Osimhen has now addressed the situation, breaking his silence on the matter. In a statement released on Sunday, he said, “Coming to the City of Naples in 2020 was a wonderful decision for me. The people of Naples have shown me so much love and kindness, and I will not allow anyone to come between us.”

He expressed his gratitude for the support he received from Nigerians and others during the controversy, emphasizing that the accusations against the people of Naples are untrue. Osimhen also highlighted the strong connections he has formed with the people of Naples and their significance in his life.

He concluded his statement with a call for unity, respect, and understanding, reaffirming his pride in wearing the Napoli badge.

“FORZA NAPOLI SEMPRE.”

Borno Senator seeks review of Nigerian laws

Senator Shehu Lawan Kaka, representing Borno Central Senatorial District, has advocated for a comprehensive review of Nigerian laws, emphasizing that such a revision has not occurred in the past 19 years. During a debated motion on Tuesday in the upper legislative chamber, Senator Kaka proposed the necessity of updating and organizing the laws alphabetically for convenient reference, particularly those currently in effect in Nigeria.

In underscoring the authority of lawmakers in approving the Office of the Attorney-General to undertake the review of Nigerian laws, Senator Kaka highlighted the prolonged delay in this essential process. He drew attention to the last revision in 2004, which was approved through the “Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria) Act, 2007,” superseding the previous “Revised Edition (Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 1990).”

Expressing concern that the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria from 2004 had not undergone revision for nineteen years, Senator Kaka noted that numerous laws enacted in Nigeria since January 1, 2003, remained excluded from the compilation.

Senators expressed support for the motion, unanimously acknowledging the responsibility of the National Assembly to conduct a thorough review. Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio endorsed the motion, directing the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters to promptly collaborate with the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation to initiate the process of revising the laws.

Ukraine has reported one of the deadliest incidents in the ongoing conflict, with a Russian missile strike causing the deaths of at least 51 people, including a child.

The strike occurred in a village near the eastern Ukrainian city of Kupiansk on Thursday. It targeted a cafe and shop in Hroza, located in the Kharkiv region, shortly after midday local time, according to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

After the strike, scenes unfolded with emergency workers sifting through the extensive rubble. Medical professionals are treating six people injured in the attack. The bodies of the deceased, including a 6-year-old boy, were recovered from the destroyed buildings, as reported by Oleh Synehubov, a regional military official.

The Ukrainian interior minister indicated that 29 victims have been identified, with the remaining bodies taken to facilities in the city of Kharkiv.

The village store was occupied by local residents when the missile struck, leading to devastation not seen since a previous attack on a railway station in Kramatorsk in early 2022, which claimed the lives of over 60 people.

Tragically, the village cafe was hosting a wake for a fallen Ukrainian soldier when the missile struck, resulting in the loss of several members of the soldier’s family, according to Dmytro Chubenko, spokesperson for the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The fallen Ukrainian soldier had previously been buried in the city of Dnipro, but his relatives had wanted him reburied in his hometown. Chubenko explained, “The wake was attended by the son of the deceased, who was also a soldier. The son, along with his wife and mother, were in a cafe and were killed by a rocket.”

The attack has reportedly devastated about one-fifth of the village’s population, which was home to 330 people.

A similar attack occurred in the nearby town of Pervomaiske, where people were also paying their respects to a fallen soldier, according to Chubenko. He noted, “His fellow soldiers were present then. Today, there were only civilians at the site of the attack.”

The missile used in the attack has been identified as an Iskander missile, known for its relatively short range and carrying a warhead of between 500 and 700 kilograms. These missiles have been frequently used by Russian forces against Ukraine, resulting in significant civilian casualties.
