Five injured in Baltimore campus shooting: police

A shooting occurred on the campus of Morgan State University in the eastern US city of Baltimore late Tuesday, resulting in injuries to at least five people, according to the police.

The incident took place around 9:25 p.m. (0125 GMT on Wednesday) on the campus of the historically black university, as confirmed by Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley. The injured individuals, aged between 18 and 22, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Morgan State’s police chief, Lance Hatcher, reported that four of the injured individuals were students at the university.

Following the shooting, the campus was placed on lockdown for several hours after an active shooter alert was issued earlier in the evening. However, officials later lifted the warning.

No arrests in connection with the shooting have been announced, and authorities advised family members to avoid the affected areas.

As a result of the incident, classes scheduled for Wednesday were canceled. Morgan State University has an approximate enrollment of 9,000 students.

The United States has seen a disturbing frequency of mass shootings, attributed to widespread access to firearms in most states and a high number of guns in the country relative to its population.
