The Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has clarified the inconsistencies in his Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) certificate. Atiku provided this explanation through Dele Momodu, one of his aides, in a social media post on Tuesday.
Momodu explained that the clarification was necessary due to allegations of forgery made against Atiku by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Some APC members raised concerns about the name “Sadiq Abubakar” appearing on Atiku’s WAEC certificate, which differed from his other credentials.
However, Momodu conveyed the accusations to the former Vice President, who offered an explanation for the inconsistency. Atiku’s response was as follows: “Yes, I used Sadiq Abubakar to take my WAEC exam, and after passing, I swore an affidavit confirming that I am the same person as ATIKU Abubakar. I used the name Atiku Abubakar when I attended ABU and passed my exams as Atiku Abubakar. I was interviewed as Atiku Abubakar by the Federal Civil Service Commission and hired into the Customs Service as Atiku Abubakar. So, where is the forgery in this?” – ATIKU ABUBAKAR
Atiku’s supporters urged the APC’s social media critics to relay their questions to their leader and expect a direct and immediate response.
