Iran calls on Islamic, Arab countries to confront Israel
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has urged Islamic and Arab nations to collaborate in confronting Israel amidst an ongoing violent conflict triggered by a surprise attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
Hamas initiated an offensive over the weekend, with hundreds of fighters infiltrating the Israeli border using various means, resulting in the loss of 1,200 lives and the taking of 150 hostages alongside rocket attacks. Israel, in response, carried out numerous airstrikes on Gaza, leading to the deaths of around 1,200 people, along with imposing a “complete siege” on the impoverished Palestinian enclave inhabited by over 2.4 million people.
Raisi, during a phone conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday, called upon all Islamic and Arab nations, as well as all advocates of freedom worldwide, to unite and cooperate earnestly to halt the actions of the Zionist regime against the oppressed Palestinian population.
He further stated that Iran will rapidly coordinate with Islamic nations to halt the “genocide of the Palestinians by the Zionists.”
Raisi celebrated the assault in Israel on behalf of Iran, although he emphasized that Iran was not directly involved in it.
During the call with Assad, Raisi criticized Arab nations that have either normalized relations with Israel or are in discussions to establish ties, asserting that their actions have led to disgrace and highlighted the weakened state of the Zionist regime.
Assad similarly stressed the need for swift action at the Arab and Islamic levels to safeguard the Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza, and to halt Israeli attacks targeting children and women.

Putin: This is not free, fair election – British official criticises Russia poll
British Foreign Secretary, Lord Cameron, has denounced the election in Russia, where President Vladimir Putin solidified his control over power by stifling any genuine opposition.
Preliminary results released on Sunday indicated that Putin secured nearly 88% of the vote in the election.
If confirmed, this outcome from Russia’s Central Election Commission would mark a record victory for Putin, prolonging his rule for another six-year term.
Only three candidates ran against the president in the election.
According to reports, these candidates refrained from criticizing Putin’s leadership or his intervention in Ukraine.
It is alleged that any serious contenders were removed before the voting began.
prominent critic Alexei Navalny died in an Arctic prison last month, while other opponents of the president’s regime are either imprisoned or in exile.
Meanwhile, the election underwent minimal independent monitoring, as the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) was not invited to observe the three-day voting process.
Responding to the election’s conduct, Cameron took to his official Twitter account to express his dismay, stating, “this is not what free and fair elections look like.”
He added, “The polls in Russia have closed amid illegal elections held on Ukrainian territory, limited voter choice, and the absence of independent OSCE monitoring. This does not resemble free and fair elections.”
