Nigerian musician Naira Marley, also known as Abdulazeez Fashola, along with his associate Samson Eletu, who is referred to as Sam Larry, has initiated a lawsuit against Lagos State Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun and the police. Their legal action, filed in the Federal High Court in Lagos, aims to challenge their prolonged detention in connection with the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, widely known as Mohbad.

Sam Larry and Naira Marley are seeking 20 million Naira in damages each from the defendants. Through their lawyer, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), they are requesting the court to declare that their continued detention at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command in Panti since October 4, 2023, violates their rights.

In the affidavits attached to their legal suits, the deponents explained that their troubles began between October 3 and 4, 2023, when they were apprehended by the police due to alleged connections with the death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

On October 4, 2023, the Commissioner of Police sought an order in the Magistrates’ Court in Yaba to detain them for 30 days. However, Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun granted the police’s request to detain them for only 21 days in police custody.

The 21-day detention order issued by Chief Magistrate Olatunbosun has now expired on October 26, 2023, and it has not been renewed.

Renowned musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, recently asserted during an appearance on an American podcast, ‘Business Untitled,’ that his family plays a significant role in Nigeria’s energy sector by operating four power plants. According to him, these power plants make substantial contributions to Nigeria’s electricity supply.

In discussing his family’s business ventures and personal investments, Davido mentioned his brief foray into cryptocurrency due to its popularity in Nigeria. He also highlighted his family’s involvement in the energy sector, emphasizing their ownership of four lucrative power plants that distribute electricity across a considerable portion of Nigeria.

Additionally, Davido disclosed plans to venture into the restaurant business with his wife, who has a passion for culinary arts. However, he reiterated that his primary focus remains on his music career.

While Davido’s family boasts wealth and investments in the energy sector, some observers may dispute his claim that their power plants supply the majority of Nigeria’s energy needs. The Nigerian government owns most of the significant thermal and hydropower plants in the country.
