Niger Delta leaders visit Wike, condemn moves to impeach Rivers gov Fubara
Leaders from various ethnic groups in the Niger Delta region paid a solidarity visit to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to express their gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing him to his cabinet. They also extended their congratulations to Wike for his appointment.
Dr. Kingsley Kuku issued a statement on Saturday, indicating that the delegation, consisting of 60 prominent leaders from the Niger Delta, was led by Prof A.W. Obianime, a former President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC).
Regarding the current political situation in Rivers State, the leaders emphasized the state’s significance to the South-South region and the need to avoid any crisis. They condemned the ongoing attempts in the State House of Assembly to impeach the State Governor on grounds of ‘gross misconduct,’ deeming it unacceptable to the Niger Delta as a whole.
The statement urged Wike, a significant political figure in Rivers, to use his influence to mediate and resolve the situation, as both the executive and legislative branches consist of his political associates. They stressed the importance of his intervention in preventing further escalation of the issue, for the sake of both Rivers State and the Niger Delta region.
The leaders implored Wike to act promptly to resolve the matter peacefully, as inaction could lead to unfavorable consequences and portray the region negatively. They emphasized the importance of his involvement in bringing a peaceful solution, highlighting that his silence in this matter would not be seen in a positive light by the public.

‘The coup failed’ – APC chairmen on plot to remove Ganduje
The Forum of All Progressives Congress State Chairmen has expressed full support for the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, by passing a vote of confidence in him.
A delegation comprising 37 state party chairmen asserted that there was an attempted coup to oust Ganduje from his position as APC National Chairman, but it was unsuccessful.
This declaration was made during a solidarity visit to the party’s secretariat in Abuja, where they reaffirmed their loyalty to Ganduje.
The acting chairman of the forum and Lagos APC chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, stated that they stand firmly behind Ganduje and are prepared to defend him against any external threats.
“We want to assure you that you remain the leader of our party. The individuals who announced your removal were not recognized members of the party to begin with. We will not allow you to face the same embarrassment as former chairmen of the party.”
“What they attempted was akin to a coup, but their efforts have been thwarted. Our presence here signifies our unwavering support for you at all times,” he emphasized.
