Napoli’s forward, Victor Osimhen, has been honored with the title of the 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year. Osimhen secured this accolade by surpassing competition from Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt’s Mohamed Salah.

Remarkably, Osimhen’s achievement marks the first time a Nigerian player has clinched this award since Nwankwo Kanu secured the prestigious title in 1999. In the women’s category, Osimhen’s compatriot, Asisat Oshoala, clinched the Women’s Player of the Year for an unprecedented sixth time. She emerged victorious over South Africa’s Thembi Klagtlana and Zambia’s Barbara Banda.

Furthermore, Chiamaka Nnadozie, a teammate of Oshoala in the Super Falcons, received the Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year award. The Super Falcons collectively secured the National Team of the Year accolade.

Arsenal’s co-chairman, Josh Kroenke, has promised that the team will continue to grow stronger, regardless of whether they win the Premier League title on Sunday.

The Gunners are two points behind Manchester City heading into the final fixtures. Mikel Arteta’s squad can only clinch the championship if they defeat Everton and City drop points against West Ham.

In his programme notes for Sunday’s season finale, Kroenke wrote: “While we are undoubtedly proud of the progress we have made, I want to be clear that no one at the club will stand still.

“Regardless of today’s outcome, we are all working behind the scenes to push us forward – always forward.

“There is so much that we want to achieve, both domestically and in Europe, and we are focused on creating exciting new stories and chapters that build on the history of Arsenal Football Club.”
