The Concerned PDP League (CPDPL), a pressure group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has issued a plea to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, urging him not to vie for the presidency again in 2027. The group’s advice was conveyed in a communiqué released on Sunday in Abuja and signed by its National Secretary, Alhaji Tasiu Muhammed, and acting National Director of Publicity and Strategic Communication, Gbenga Adedamola.

Additionally, CPDPL cautioned the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, against harboring presidential ambitions until 2031, to prevent a recurrence of the party’s setbacks in 2015 and 2023.

The group underscored that aspirants from the North should recognize that the South has eight years before the power rotation returns to the North in 2031, emphasizing the need for political stability in the country.

CPDPL also advised the PDP to be mindful of the factors that contributed to its failure in the 2023 general election and urged the party to address those issues as it prepares for the 2027 general election. The group highlighted the challenges faced in 2023, attributing the party’s loss in the presidential election to non-compliance with the party’s constitution of 2017, as amended, and leadership failures.

The Forum of All Progressives Congress State Chairmen has expressed full support for the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, by passing a vote of confidence in him.

A delegation comprising 37 state party chairmen asserted that there was an attempted coup to oust Ganduje from his position as APC National Chairman, but it was unsuccessful.

This declaration was made during a solidarity visit to the party’s secretariat in Abuja, where they reaffirmed their loyalty to Ganduje.

The acting chairman of the forum and Lagos APC chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, stated that they stand firmly behind Ganduje and are prepared to defend him against any external threats.

“We want to assure you that you remain the leader of our party. The individuals who announced your removal were not recognized members of the party to begin with. We will not allow you to face the same embarrassment as former chairmen of the party.”
