Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, has justified the decision for Mohamed Salah to return to Liverpool from the Africa Cup of Nations and has responded to critics who questioned the forward’s loyalty to Egypt.

Following a hamstring injury suffered during a 2-2 draw with Ghana last Thursday, Salah flew back to the UK on Wednesday to commence an “intensive rehabilitation program.” Initially ruled out for two matches, Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas later revealed that the player is expected to be sidelined for several weeks.

Despite suggestions from four-time AFCON winner Ahmed Hassan that Salah, the captain of the Pharaohs, should stay with his country under any circumstances, Klopp, speaking after a 1-1 draw with Fulham on Wednesday night, defended the situation. Klopp clarified that the decision was made based on the information available at the time, and he emphasized Salah’s loyalty, stating, “Mo Salah is definitely the most loyal Egyptian I’ve met in my life.”

EPL: Cole Palmer far from what we expected – Pochettino

Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has insisted he was not expecting Cole Palmer to have a big impact at Chelsea.

Palmer joined the Blues from Manchester City in a £42 million deal in August.

The 21-year-old has now scored 20 Premier League goals and is joint-top scorer with former City teammate Erling Haaland.

When asked if he’s surprised at how many goals Palmer has scored since moving to Stamford Bridge, Pochettino responded: “We believe they can perform but it is true he is performing in a very good way; maybe above expectation. I think it’s his first consistent season playing but we need to be careful because he is still young, he is growing, he needs to develop in different areas.

“But of course, he is far away from what we expected from the beginning. I need to be honest.”
