Afrobeat artist Davido made an inaccurate statement suggesting that Nigeria comprises only three tribes: Yoruba, Igbo, and Benin.

During an interaction with popular American content creator Kai Cenat, who is currently in Nigeria for a documentary, Davido mistakenly stated, “We have three tribes in Nigeria. There’s Yoruba. My father is Yoruba. And in Nigeria, wherever your father is from, that’s where you are really from. So my father is Yoruba. My wife is from Igbo. And my mother is from Benin. I’m three tribes in one.”

Contrary to Davido’s assertion, data from the National Bureau of Statistics indicates that Nigeria is home to 371 tribes, with the most populous being the Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba tribes.

“Those with life jackets survived the boat mishap. And they also told me that when they were in the water trying to survive, Junior Pope was also there asking, ‘Is everybody okay? Hope everybody is fine?’ They said they even threw a gallon to him to use and hold himself which he was holding but all of a sudden they didn’t see him again.

“It was when they came out that they noticed that he was no longer there. They said divers came and reduced some of them while other divers were still there trying to rescue others.
