2024 NAACP Image Awards: Burna Boy loses six awards
Nigerian artist Burna Boy’s streak of disappointments at award ceremonies continued at the 2024 NAACP Image Awards, where he failed to secure victory in six nominated categories.
Despite his self-proclaimed title of ‘African Giant,’ Burna Boy was unable to clinch the title of Outstanding Male Artist of the Year, losing to Usher. Additionally, his song ‘City Boys’ was bested in the Outstanding International Song category by his compatriot Tems’ track ‘Me & U.’
Furthermore, Burna Boy’s collaboration ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World’ featuring 21 Savage was outshined in the categories of Outstanding Hip-hop/Rap Song and Best Duo/Group Collaboration (Contemporary) by ‘Cobra’ by Megan Thee Stallion and ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, respectively.
In addition to these losses, Burna Boy’s album ‘I Told Them…’ failed to secure victory in the Outstanding Album of the Year category, losing to ‘Jaguar II’ by Victoria Monét.
This adds to Burna Boy’s previous disappointments, including seven losses at the 2023 BET Hip-hop Awards, four at the 2024 Grammys, and one at the 2024 Brit Awards.
Meanwhile, ‘Sensational’ by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, which had already won the Best Duo/Group Collaboration (Contemporary) award on the first night of the 55th Image Awards, also claimed victory in the Outstanding Visual Album/Song category on the second night.

My family distribute electricity to most of Nigeria – Davido
Renowned musician David Adeleke, also known as Davido, recently asserted during an appearance on an American podcast, ‘Business Untitled,’ that his family plays a significant role in Nigeria’s energy sector by operating four power plants. According to him, these power plants make substantial contributions to Nigeria’s electricity supply.
In discussing his family’s business ventures and personal investments, Davido mentioned his brief foray into cryptocurrency due to its popularity in Nigeria. He also highlighted his family’s involvement in the energy sector, emphasizing their ownership of four lucrative power plants that distribute electricity across a considerable portion of Nigeria.
Additionally, Davido disclosed plans to venture into the restaurant business with his wife, who has a passion for culinary arts. However, he reiterated that his primary focus remains on his music career.
While Davido’s family boasts wealth and investments in the energy sector, some observers may dispute his claim that their power plants supply the majority of Nigeria’s energy needs. The Nigerian government owns most of the significant thermal and hydropower plants in the country.

Adanma Luke, the producer of the movie Junior Pope was shooting before he drowned has claimed that the later actor was given a life jacket but rejected it.
DAILY POST reports that Luke has been under heavy fire following the death of actor Junior Pope and three others after their boat capsized on the Anam River in Anambra State while returning from the location of her movie, ‘The Other Side Of Life.’
Breaking her silence since the incident, Luke Adanma claimed that Junior Pope was provided with a life jacket but rejected it because it was dirty.
Speaking in a video message shared via her Instagram account, she said: “My director was on life jacket, Emeka the DOP was also on life jacket. There was still one life jacket available, I don’t know who took it.
“My producer manager said they saw life jackets hanging and they took them. He said he even asked the late Friday to take one to Junior Pope but Junior Pope said it was dirty so he didn’t take it.
“Those with life jackets survived the boat mishap. And they also told me that when they were in the water trying to survive, Junior Pope was also there asking, ‘Is everybody okay? Hope everybody is fine?’ They said they even threw a gallon to him to use and hold himself which he was holding but all of a sudden they didn’t see him again.
“It was when they came out that they noticed that he was no longer there. They said divers came and reduced some of them while other divers were still there trying to rescue others.
“I said what could have caused this accident? They said they don’t know but TC was standing on the speed boat rigging bell.”
