Euro 2024: Pedri surpasses Ronaldo’s record
Spain star Pedri surpassed Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo’s record on Sunday by featuring in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory over Georgia in the last-16.
According to beIN SPORTS, Pedri set a new record for the most major tournament appearances by any European player aged 21 or under.
At 21 years and 218 days old, the Barcelona midfielder made his 13th appearance in a European Championship or World Cup during Spain’s Round of 16 match at Euro 2024.
This also marked the fourth time Pedri started in a Euros knockout stage match while aged 21 or under, the most for any player in this age group.
He surpassed Ronaldo’s record of 12 tournament appearances for Portugal before turning 22, achieved during Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.
Pedri made his senior international debut at 18 in March 2021.

AFCON 2025 qualifier: Eguavoen speaks on starting Victor Osimhen
Austin Eguavoen, the interim manager of the Super Eagles, stated that he will decide today whether Victor Osimhen will start in the match against the Republic of Benin.
The teams are set to face off in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on Saturday evening at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Osimhen was the last player to join the Super Eagles camp, as he needed to finalize his future after not securing a move to Chelsea or Al Ahli from Napoli during the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old ultimately signed a loan deal with Turkish club Galatasaray on Thursday and then joined his teammates for training in Uyo.
Regarding whether Osimhen will be in the starting lineup against Benin, Eguavoen mentioned at the pre-match press conference:
“To determine that, considering we have a squad of 23 players, I need to reflect overnight before making the decision on who will start tomorrow.”

Ballon d’Or: Top 5 in the world – Neymar slams organizers for snubbing one player
Al Hilal superstar, Neymar, has claimed Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is one of the best five players in the world.
Rodrygo is one of the big names that was excluded from the 30-man shortlist for the 2024 Ballon d’Or released on Wednesday.
The Brazilian made over 50 appearances for Madrid, as they won both the LaLiga and Champions League titles last season.
Rodrygo scored 17 goals for the Spanish giants and has moved on to 27 senior caps for his country.
All of those achievements have been overlooked by France Football, the organizers of the Ballon d’Or.
In reaction, Neymar Jr posted on social media in support of his 23-year-old international colleague: “Minimum top 5 in the world! Ace.”

Transfer deadline day: Osimhen’s move to Chelsea collapses, set for Napoli stay
Victor Osimhen’s proposed move from Napoli to Chelsea has collapsed.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Blues, despite keen interest from Al Ahli.
However, Osimhen was not able to reach an agreement with the Premier League.
This leaves the Nigerian striker’s future up in the air, as he has been frozen out by Antonio Conte in Naples.
Conte has also brought in Romelu Lukaku to lead his attack this season.
There is little hope that Osimhen could yet leave Italy, as the transfer window in Saudi Arabia closes on Monday, September 2.
Al Ahli are ready to pay Napoli between €75/80m for Osimhen.
They have also offered the player a four-year contract, which will see him earn around £33.6m (€40m) a season – or £646,154 per-week – tax-free.
