Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put aside personal ambitions and prioritize the party’s unity during its current leadership crisis.
Speaking to PDP members in Abuja, Saraki stressed that the party’s legacy and progress should not be compromised for individual interests.
This advice comes amid ongoing tensions within the PDP, a rift that began in the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, when prominent figures like Nyesom Wike, Governor Seyi Makinde, and other former governors opposed the party’s presidential candidate.
Since the 2023 election, the PDP has been grappling with internal leadership challenges.
Saraki emphasized, “The PDP was built on principles, values, and policies. We must prioritize these over individual ambitions. There can be no ambition without a party, and no party without shared ideas. That is where we begin.”
He added, “We should shift our focus from discussions about who might run for office in 2027. Instead, we need to center on the ideals the PDP stands for, and the policies we must advocate. This is what Nigerians expect of us.”
“Our message to Nigerians should be clear: PDP is a serious party, led by leaders committed to guiding it forward.”
