The Bauchi Legacy Legislators (BLL), a key socio-economic and political advocacy group, has applauded President Bola Tinubu’s administration for keeping its campaign promise to advance operations at the Kolmani Oil Field and other resource-rich areas in Northern Nigeria. In a statement released by its leader, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and shared with journalists in Bauchi yesterday, the group urged the federal government to fully harness the potential of the Kolmani Oil and Gas reserves.
Their praise comes on the heels of a recent interview with Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Group CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, who confirmed that full-scale activities at the Kolmani oil wells would soon recommence.
The group stressed that the revival of operations would deliver substantial economic benefits to local communities, Bauchi State, the North-East, and the entire country.
It is worth noting that in February 2025, while commissioning a constituency project in Toro LGA, Senator Shehu Buba and Hon. Dogara had both urged the federal government to expedite the resumption of operations at Kolmani. Dogara, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, also renewed his appeal for the construction of the Kafin Zaki and Zungur/Bagel dams, citing their capacity to create jobs, enhance agricultural output, and supply hundreds of megawatts to the national grid.
The BLL further called for the prompt execution of the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Gombe–Yola highway and other key infrastructure projects under the current administration.
They noted that the successful delivery of these projects would strengthen support for President Tinubu’s potential re-election campaign in 2027, especially in Bauchi State and across the North-East.
According to LEADERSHIP, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, on Saturday conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy’s permanent site in Alkaleri, a project valued at over ₦6.7 billion.
The minister emphasized the academy’s role in training skilled professionals to support Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and reaffirmed the federal government’s backing for the Kolmani Oil Field, as well as its vision for Bauchi to become a leading player in the industry.
