A group known as the Concerned Edo Youths has voiced its support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its ongoing crackdown on internet fraudsters, commonly known as “Yahoo boys.”
The group also condemned last week’s protest by some youths in Benin City, the Edo State capital, who demonstrated against the EFCC following the arrest of several suspected fraudsters.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, the group’s convener, Comrade Gbale Joseph, criticized the protest, calling it a disgraceful act that tarnishes Nigeria’s image.
He referred to the protest as “a terrible image of us as Nigerians” and stressed the need for collective efforts to rid society of individuals who exploit and defraud hardworking citizens of their earnings.
At a press briefing, the group reiterated its full backing of the EFCC’s efforts and urged the public to support the agency in its fight against cybercrime.
