The Lagos State Government is planning to bring back the monthly environmental sanitation exercise as part of its efforts to ensure a cleaner, safer, and flood-free environment.
This development was revealed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, during an inspection visit to Idi-Araba, Orile Iganmu, and Alaba Rago in Ojo Local Government Area on Sunday.
Wahab noted that the State Executive Council is currently deliberating on the proposal and that, once it gains approval, the Governor will officially announce its reinstatement.
“Lagos is seriously considering the reintroduction of the monthly sanitation exercise. Once EXCO gives the green light, the governor will make it public. This initiative is long overdue,” Wahab stated.
The exercise, which was traditionally held on the last Saturday of each month from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., was suspended in November 2016.
However, growing concerns over poor waste disposal, blocked drainage systems, and environmental degradation have led to renewed calls for the exercise to resume.
