Kano: NDLEA arrests 36, recovers illicit drugs in Sallah operation

The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended 36 individuals during a special operation conducted ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir festivities.

In a statement released on Sunday, the agency’s spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, disclosed that the arrests occurred during a two-day operation carried out on May 30 and 31 across various locations, including Makabartar Dan’agundi, Kwari, Kofar Na’isa, and Kano Line.

The operation was led by the state NDLEA Commander, Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, with the aim of ensuring a safe and drug-free celebration.

“We apprehended 36 suspects and seized various illicit substances such as cannabis sativa, ‘suck and die’, diazepam, rubber solution, among others,” the statement read.

Commander Idris-Ahmad commended the dedication of the officers involved in the operation and urged Kano residents to celebrate the season responsibly.

“On behalf of the Chairman/CEO of the agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), we extend our warm wishes to the people of Kano for a peaceful and drug-free Sallah celebration,” he stated.

He also cautioned against the sale and use of illicit drugs and encouraged the public to report any suspicious drug-related activity.
