Protest hits Benue community over abduction of traders in Owukpa

Youths in Owukpa, located in Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State, took to the streets on Monday in protest over the recent kidnapping of local traders.

According to DAILY POST, over the weekend, unidentified armed men hijacked a Benue Links vehicle and abducted several female passengers along the Owukpa–Orokam road.

The incident reportedly happened around 7 p.m. near the Eyiupi community, as the victims were returning from Orba market in Enugu to Owukpa. The attackers, believed to be armed herdsmen, ambushed the vehicle and seized the women—both young and older adults.

As of now, the abductors have not reached out to the families of the victims or made any ransom demands.

In response, angry youths blocked the Orokam-Owukpa-Okpoga road, calling on the government to take immediate steps to rescue the abducted women.

Their protest has brought traffic to a standstill, leaving travelers from Enugu and nearby areas stranded, as the demonstrators have barred all movement in and out of the community.
