ADC holds coalition meeting in Abia

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition allies held a significant political summit on Friday in Umuahia, Abia State, presenting a united front in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

During the gathering, Abia State ADC Chairman, Don Norman Obinna, announced that the party had been unanimously chosen as the official platform for the coalition’s political revival.

Obinna emphasized that this move goes beyond mere political realignment. It is a collective response to prolonged governance failures, economic hardship, and the marginalization of citizens under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government.

“We have adopted the ADC as the coalition’s party to correct the damage caused by the APC. Unemployment is at a crisis level, the naira continues to depreciate, and the national minimum wage is an embarrassment,” he said.

He noted that the coalition aims to ease the suffering of Nigerians, tackle hunger, and steer the country back toward growth and prosperity.

Obinna called for the emancipation of Abia State and Nigeria through principled leadership built on integrity, fairness, and accountability.

“Since 1999, our vision in Abia has been to support people of character who can rebuild the nation based on justice and equity. True governance must be anchored in transparency,” he added.

Delivering the keynote speech, Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a political analyst and reform advocate, highlighted the importance of civic engagement and inclusive governance in reshaping Nigeria’s future.

He denounced the marginalisation of the South East and advocated for rotational leadership, equal representation, and issue-driven political campaigns.

“We must resist exchanging our votes for handouts like rice, cloth, or empty promises. Nigeria’s path forward depends on accountability driven by the people,” Afamefuna asserted.

Also speaking, Rev. Blessed Amalambu, the ADC candidate for the Abia State House of Assembly in 2023, urged the coalition to thoroughly vet candidates and prevent corrupt individuals from hijacking the movement.
