A Boeing 787 aircraft operated by Air India Limited, flying from Ahmedabad to London’s Gatwick Airport, has reportedly crashed.
According to Reuters, which cited local media on Thursday, Flight 171 went down shortly after takeoff. Police sources told the news agency that around 242 passengers and crew were on board.
Data from Flightradar24 showed the plane had climbed to 625 feet at a speed of 174 kilometers per hour before the incident occurred. Videos circulating on social media captured thick black smoke rising in the distance.
As noted on its official website, Air India’s fleet includes 128 aircraft from both Airbus SE and Boeing.
