The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has announced a partnership with the Ministry of Youth Development and the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to commence the training of selected NYSC members to drive National Identification Number, NIN, enrolment across all wards in the federation.
This was disclosed in a statement by the commission’s spokesperson, Kayode Adegoke, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the initiative forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to enrol and issue NIN to all Nigerians and legal residents within the shortest time possible.
NIMC has so far enrolled and issued NIN to over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents, and now intends to reach previously inaccessible areas through the Ward Enrolment initiative. The selected corps members are currently undergoing intensive training in preparation for the commencement of ward enrolment.
Consequently, Nigerians, especially children below the age of 16, are encouraged, through this initiative, to enrol for NIN in their respective wards. The aim is to bring NIN enrolment closer to the people.
In her remarks, the Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, lauded the immeasurable support of President Tinubu towards the fulfilment of the NIMC’s mandate.
She also expressed appreciation for the commendable efforts of the Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawande, and the DG, NYSC, Brigadier-General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu.
