The newly established Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Ihugh, has officially commenced operations with the awarding of its first set of contracts.
Two construction firms have been contracted to undertake the construction and renovation of facilities at the university’s temporary campus located in Ihugh, Vandeikya Local Government Area.
The contract award ceremony was held at the Ministry of Education headquarters in Makurdi, where the Commissioner for Education, Rev. Frederick Ikyaan, described the university as a flagship initiative of Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia.
Rev. Ikyaan instructed the contractors to begin work immediately and to ensure that all projects are completed on time and to a high standard. He emphasized that all work must strictly follow the contract specifications and cautioned the contractors not to yield to any form of corruption or demands made in his name.
“Don’t allow any corrupt individuals claiming to represent me to extort you,” he warned. “Direct them to the ministry if you face any issues.”
Representing the contractors, Professor Qrisstuberg Amua of SOTTAM Synergy Resources Ltd assured the commissioner that the companies are committed to fulfilling their responsibilities with professionalism and integrity. He also praised the ministry for its transparent approach.
Under the agreement, Speed Engineering Concepts Limited will be responsible for constructing and refurbishing key facilities, including administrative blocks, science and technology labs, lecture halls, and staff quarters at the temporary site.
SOTTAM Synergy Resources Ltd will handle the procurement and delivery of utility vehicles, office furniture, and equipment. They will also upgrade sanitation and electrical systems, construct perimeter fencing, and provide consultancy services.
The event was attended by top officials from the ministry, including Mrs. Helen Nambativ, Permanent Secretary for Secondary and Tertiary Education; Barrister Lucy Dondo, Director of Legal Services; and Samuel Yange, the Procurement Officer.
