The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, has said that offering Rabiu Kwankwaso the vice-presidential slot by President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections should not be viewed as an insult.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Johnson confirmed that some APC members have reached out to him about the possibility of a Tinubu-Kwankwaso ticket.
“It wouldn’t be offensive to offer him the vice presidency; whether he chooses to accept is another issue,” Johnson said.
He noted that since the 2023 elections, the NNPP has remained open to dialogue with any political party genuinely committed to national progress.
A longtime associate of Kwankwaso since 2013, Johnson emphasized that any final decision would be made collectively by the party.
“Some people from the APC have contacted me, saying, ‘If the offer comes, please encourage him to accept,’ but ultimately, it’s a team decision,” he added.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, continues to wield considerable political influence in Kano and the broader northern region.
