President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has congratulated Mr. Eze Anaba, editor at Vanguard Newspapers, on his re-election as president of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate president described Anaba’s re-election as “a vote of confidence” from his peers, praising his professionalism and dedication to ethical journalism.
“Mr. Anaba is an astute professional whose adherence to the ethics of the journalism profession has earned him inimitable confidence from his colleagues and the Nigerian public,” Akpabio stated.
Highlighting the importance of a free and responsible press, Akpabio reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to fostering good governance through collaboration with media stakeholders.
“The Senate, under my leadership, is committed to promoting good governance through free speech and is ready to collaborate with the Guild to foster a seamless dissemination of information in the country,” he said.
Describing Anaba as “a square peg in a square hole,” Akpabio commended his leadership and called on the NGE to continue its efforts in sanitizing the profession.
He urged the Guild to work with stakeholders to eliminate fake news and unprofessional practices.
“Journalism is a noble profession which must be free from peddlers of misinformation,” he added.
Akpabio also extended his best wishes to Anaba and the newly elected executive members of the NGE. “On behalf of my family, the 10th Senate, and the entire National Assembly, I wish to heartily congratulate Mr. Eze Anaba and the newly elected executive of the NGE. I wish you all a successful tenure,” he said.
