Our people losing confidence in your govt – Sultan of Sokoto-led JNI tells Tinubu

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has voiced serious concern over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria, cautioning that citizens are rapidly losing faith in the government’s ability to safeguard lives and property.

In a statement signed by its Secretary-General, Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, JNI condemned the recent killing of Muslim wedding attendees in Plateau State and other violent incidents occurring across the nation.

“The Federal Government must demonstrate greater urgency in addressing security issues,” the statement emphasized.

It noted that public frustration is mounting, particularly in light of the Mangu killings, adding that despite known hotspots, no meaningful action appears to be taken.

JNI criticized security agencies for repeated lapses in intelligence and stressed that the government must move beyond issuing condemnations to taking real action.

It called for the prosecution of those behind previous attacks, especially the perpetrators of the Plateau massacre, to help rebuild public trust.

The organization expressed alarm over the continued killings, kidnappings, and renewed Boko Haram activities, urging the government to take firm and immediate steps rather than simply establishing committees.

JNI further demanded that the Plateau State Government replace the Ahmadu Bello University bus that was destroyed in the attack and called on civil society and legal institutions to pursue justice for the victims.

It also pressed for swift government intervention not just in Plateau, but in Benue and other regions affected by similar violence.
