Replacing Shettima as VP will affect your second term bid – Buhari’s minister, Shittu warns Tinubu

Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shittu, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, warned that any attempt to drop Shettima could jeopardize Tinubu’s chances of securing a second term.

Speaking during an interview on AIT Focus Nigeria, Shittu addressed ongoing speculation that Tinubu might select a new running mate for the next election. The presidency has since dismissed such rumours, stating that Tinubu’s decision will be revealed once official campaign activities begin.

“Shettima wasn’t chosen as vice president because of any past ties with ANPP; he earned it on his own merit. He is highly qualified, and I would vote for him any day. He’s an intelligent vice president, and I don’t see any reason to question his place on Tinubu’s team,” Shittu said.

He further warned, “If there are indeed suggestions to replace Shettima, we must tread cautiously. Such a move would cause significant disruption and could threaten Tinubu’s re-election prospects. There’s no justification for punishing him when he’s done nothing wrong.”
