Gunmen Behead Omoku Youth President, Kill Aide in Rivers State Attack

Suspected gunmen have murdered the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Ifeanyi Azuazu, after abducting him during a violent attack in Rivers State.

Youth Leader Abducted During Shooting Incident

Tragedy struck Omoku community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State after unknown gunmen killed the President of the Omoku Youth Federation, Ifeanyi Azuazu.

Community sources told Atlantic Reporters Online that Azuazu was kidnapped on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during an attack at a popular drinking spot along Ogolo Street, off Palace Road, Omoku. The incident reportedly occurred around 6:00 p.m.

During the attack, the assailants also shot and killed Azuazu’s personal aide, Chigozie Oluwu.

Body Found Beheaded in Forest

Sources disclosed that Azuazu’s lifeless and beheaded body was later recovered in a forest in Elieta, still within ONELGA.

Operatives of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) reportedly discovered the remains several days after the youth leader was abducted.

Eyewitnesses Describe Deadly Attack

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the attackers, numbering about seven, arrived at the scene in two vehicles and opened fire immediately after sighting Azuazu.

The gunmen reportedly forced the youth president into one of their vehicles after shooting sporadically. Oluwu allegedly attempted to rescue his principal but was shot dead on the spot before the attackers fled with Azuazu.

OSPAC Confirms Recovery of Corpse

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of OSPAC in ONELGA, Mr. Goodnews Nkem, said in a telephone interview that the corpse was found in Elieta Forest.

The killing has sparked widespread outrage, grief, and fear among residents of Omoku and surrounding communities, with many calling for urgent security intervention.

Rising Security Concerns in Rivers State

The brutal killing has raised fresh concerns over insecurity in parts of Rivers State, particularly in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, where cases of kidnapping and violent attacks have been reported in recent times.

Security agencies are yet to release an official statement regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report.
