N5bn yacht in Supplementary Budget not for Tinubu – Presidency opens up

On Thursday, the Presidency provided clarification regarding the inclusion of a yacht in the Supplementary Budget. Contrary to widespread beliefs, the Presidency stated that the yacht is intended for the Nigerian Navy, not for President Bola Tinubu. This explanation was conveyed through a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

The statement emphasized that the item labeled as a “Presidential Yacht” in the budget is, in fact, an operational naval vessel equipped with specialized security equipment designed for high-profile operational inspections and is not intended for the President’s personal use.

It is worth noting that the House of Representatives removed the N5 billion presidential yacht from the 2023 Supplementary Budget. The budget was passed on Tuesday after adopting the report presented by Abubakar Bichi, the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee from Kano State, as reported by DAILY POST.
