Mayor of Atlanta declares November 18 ‘Davido Day’

The Mayor of Atlanta, Andre Dickens, has acknowledged the significant contributions of Nigerian-American singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, to the entertainment scene in the city. This recognition follows Davido’s headline A.W.A.Y Festival at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta. In honor of the artist, both the Mayor and the Atlanta City Council declared November 18 as “Davido Day.”

Expressing his appreciation to Davido on his birthday, November 21, 2023, the Mayor recognized Davido’s global impact as a music icon. The Mayor conveyed gratitude for Davido’s multifaceted role as a singer, songwriter, producer, business leader, philanthropist, and community advocate. The Mayor praised Davido’s outstanding career, numerous accolades, and his ongoing efforts to contribute to communities in the United States and across Africa.

Additionally, the Atlanta City Council issued a statement proclaiming November 18, 2023, as “Davido Day” in the City of Atlanta, expressing the collective acknowledgment of the citizens.

Moreover, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners has also extended its recognition to Davido by proclaiming November 21 as “Davido Appreciation Day” in the City of Fulton County, Georgia. The Board highlighted Davido’s notable contributions to the music and entertainment industry and formally declared their appreciation on this dedicated day.

According to him, these power plants make substantial contributions to Nigeria’s electricity supply.

He also highlighted his family’s involvement in the energy sector, emphasizing their ownership of four lucrative power plants that distribute electricity across a considerable portion of Nigeria.

Additionally, Davido disclosed plans to venture into the restaurant business with his wife, who has a passion for culinary arts. However, he reiterated that his primary focus remains on his music career.

While Davido’s family boasts wealth and investments in the energy sector, some observers may dispute his claim that their power plants supply the majority of Nigeria’s energy needs. The Nigerian government owns most of the significant thermal and hydropower plants in the country.
