Don’t bring any idiot as Super Eagles coach – Airpeace CEO, Onyema warns NFF
Allen Onyema, the CEO of Airpeace, has voiced his opposition to the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) decision to hire another foreign coach for the national team. The Super Eagles currently lack a coach following the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract in February. In the interim, former international player Finidi George has been appointed to oversee the team for upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
Onyema, a staunch supporter of the Super Eagles, has cautioned the NFF against overlooking local candidates in favor of foreign coaches. In an interview with City People Online, he expressed his belief that there are capable individuals within the country who could lead the team. He cited the relative success of past Nigerian coaches, such as Eguavoen, and emphasized the need to give Nigerian coaches equal opportunities. Onyema criticized the tendency to blame Nigerian coaches for shortcomings while overlooking similar outcomes under foreign coaches. He urged Nigerians to oppose any decision by the NFF to appoint a foreign coach over a qualified local candidate.

High-ranking officials at Manchester United are expressing apprehension over the possibility of Thomas Tuchel encountering conflicts with the club’s leadership if he is appointed to replace Erik ten Hag.
Tuchel is set to depart from Bayern Munich at the conclusion of this season, a decision that was announced as early as February. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner, along with his INEOS associates, are reportedly deliberating on Ten Hag’s future and considering potential replacements.
Among the candidates being discussed, Tuchel, who has previously managed Chelsea in the Premier League, has emerged as a prominent name.
However, as per reports from The Times, there are reservations regarding Tuchel’s track record of disagreements with higher-ups at his previous clubs. His tenure at Mainz ended in 2014 amid disputes with directors over transfer finances, while he was dismissed from Borussia Dortmund three years later due to a breakdown in trust between himself and the club’s board.
At least 11 teams have secured their berths in the upcoming season of the Champions League. These clubs have already confirmed their qualification based on their assured positions in their respective leagues.
Among them are Arsenal and Manchester City representing the Premier League, along with Real Madrid and Barcelona from Spain. Also included are Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich from Germany, Inter Milan and AC Milan from Italy, as well as PSV and Feyenoord from the Netherlands. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain from France completes the list.
The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League will mark the inaugural season under the new format featuring a league phase comprising 36 teams. Two of the four extra spots will be occupied by the European Performance Spots.
