Nnamdi Kanu: ADF demands unconditional release of IPOB leader
Igbo think-tank, Alaigbo Development Foundation, ADF, has demanded immediate and unconditional release of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
President of the ADF, Prof Ukachukwu Awuzie made the call during a press conference held in Enugu on Sunday after an executive meeting of the group.
DAILY POST recalls that Kanu, who was rearraigned by the Federal Government was denied bail by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
His legal representatives have also cried out that he can’t get justice while in detention. https://dailypost.ng/2024/04/07/ipob-nnamdi-kanu-cant-get-fair-trial-while-detained-by-dss-lawyer-ejimakor/
At the press briefing, Awuzie said that Kanu’s demand for self-determination constituted the fundamental rights enshrined in the United Nation’s Charter for Human Rights as well as the African Charter for Human and People’s Rights.
He noted that Kanu’s continued incarceration was more worrisome as Boko Haram fighters who have taken up arms against the nation were being released and reintegrated into the society, even to the point of being conscripted into the nation’s security architecture.
“The ADF calls for the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB).
“The struggles for self-determination embarked upon by Kanu and his supporters are popular democratic agitations and constitute the fundamental rights enshrined in the United Nations Charter for Human Rights as well as the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.
“Kanu’s continued incarceration constitutes a spite on social justice and an infringement on his fundamental rights to self expression, especially when viewed against the Federal Government’s attitude of allowing those who had taken up arms against the state to be released, rehabilitated and even reintegrated into the Nation’s security architecture,” he said.
The former Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) president said that the vision of ADF was geared towards building a strong and virile organization of Igbo Intelligentsia that is ready and willing to defend the cause of Igbo liberation from marginalization, oppression and under-development.
He called on South East Governors to come together to develop a comprehensive development plan for the Igbo nation as, “It is one sure way of harnessing our abundant human and material resources for the attainment of food security.”
“The time has come for Ndigbo to create master-plans for infrastructural development of their region with a solid rail system to link all the major industrial, commercial and administrative hubs in Alaigbo,” he said.
Awuzie added that the new executive was committed to an ADF that pursues the dreams and aspirations of Ndigbo within the Nigerian federation and one that is equally focused on our self-determination in Nigeria.

Peruvian Gov’t Classifies Intersex, Transgender People As ‘Mentally Ill’
Peruvian Health Minister Cesar Vasquez has classified transgender, non-binary, and intersex individuals as mentally ill.
On May 10, Peruvian President Dina Boluarte, Health Minister Cesar Vasquez, and Minister of Economy and Finance Arista Arbildo signed a decree. This decree states that transsexualism, dual-role transvestism, gender identity disorder in childhood, other gender identity disorders, and egodystonic sexual orientation are all categorized as mental health problems.
Cesar Vasquez explained that the decree was necessary for Peru’s public health services to ensure comprehensive medical attention for mental health issues.
The decree has sparked outrage among the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer) community, which has labeled it discriminatory.
A medical researcher at Lima’s Scientific University of the South noted that although the decree might have been well-intentioned, it shows a lack of understanding of complex LGBT issues and potentially opens the door to conversion therapy.

EPL: Conduct massive clearout – Rooney names only player Man Utd needs
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has singled out captain Bruno Fernandes as the only senior player the club should retain at Old Trafford this summer.
Rooney urged the Red Devils to conduct a major clear-out of players during the summer transfer window.
This recommendation follows Fernandes’ key role in Manchester United’s crucial 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
Speaking to Sky Sports (via United in Focus), Rooney stated:
“He is the one player with quality and fight in him. I would keep the young players and Bruno, but all the other players need to go. There has to be a massive clear-out. It’s not going to happen in one year, but over the next couple of years.”
He added, “To compete with Man City, Liverpool, and Arsenal, they need better players.”
