PalmPay Champions Contactless Payments

PalmPay has reiterated its commitment to shaping the future of payments in Nigeria by driving the adoption of contactless-enabled payment terminals. This announcement came during the recently held BusinessDay Future of Payment Conference, themed “Fintech Evolution: Gateway to Payments.” In his opening remarks, BusinessDay Publisher Frank Aigbogun stressed that the next stage of fintech advancement must prioritize not only speed, security, and ease of use but also trust, inclusivity, and accessibility to benefit all sectors of society.

Speaking on PalmPay’s contributions during a panel session titled “The Next Wave of Digital Payments: Trends and Innovation,” PalmPay’s Senior Business Development Manager, Ifeanyi Uzoka, discussed how digital payments are evolving in Nigeria. He acknowledged that, although regulatory support for contactless payments has grown, widespread adoption is still hindered by the country’s continued reliance on cash.

“Financial inclusion is at the heart of everything we do at PalmPay,” Uzoka said. “To advance this goal, we’ve introduced contactless-enabled debit and premium cards, providing users with secure and convenient ways to pay. Trust remains a priority for us, which is why every contactless transaction on our platform includes an extra layer of authentication to ensure security.”

With over 35 million users across the country, PalmPay continues to lead in digital financial innovation. Its recent launch of contactless debit and premium cards in collaboration with Verve reflects its alignment with global payment trends and reinforces its commitment to a more inclusive and digitally empowered Nigerian economy.
