President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC).
The appointment was officially communicated in a letter dated May 22, 2025, and signed by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation. Danfulani’s tenure begins on May 21, 2025, and will run for an initial four-year term, in line with Section 15(a) of the NAIC Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Danfulani, who holds the traditional title of Turakin Zamfara, is expected to bring fresh energy and strategic leadership to NAIC, which plays a vital role in protecting Nigeria’s agricultural sector from risks like drought, pests, and other natural hazards.
An experienced administrator and banker, Danfulani earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Arts and Management from the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. His previous roles include serving with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and as Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in Zamfara State.
According to the letter, his remuneration and service terms will be governed by the provisions of the “Certain Political, Public and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) (Amendment) Act, 2008.”
His appointment has received widespread commendation, with many viewing it as a testament to his leadership capabilities, professional competence, and dedication to national development. Danfulani is expected to prioritize improving access to agricultural insurance, enhancing NAIC’s operational efficiency, and supporting Nigeria’s food security goals.
