Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe and Babagana Zulum of Borno have declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, citing the achievements of his administration as justification for a second term.
The two governors made their remarks at the All Progressives Congress (APC) North East Consultative Forum meeting in Gombe.
Governor Buni praised Tinubu’s leadership in navigating both domestic and international challenges, saying it has kept Nigeria on a path of steady development. He highlighted that the President has introduced significant reforms over the past two years aimed at driving national growth.
Buni argued that the scope and impact of Tinubu’s reforms require more than a single term to take full effect. He stressed that extending Tinubu’s mandate would allow for the continued implementation of these policies, which are vital for long-term progress.
Addressing regional security, Buni stated that Tinubu has rolled out new initiatives to combat insecurity in the North East, enabling displaced residents to safely return to their farms and boosting food production and security.
“In just two years, President Tinubu has enacted bold reforms designed to uplift the lives of Nigerians,” Buni said. He acknowledged the accompanying difficulties but expressed optimism that the policies would ultimately yield a better future.
“These initiatives need strategic planning and time. One term may not be enough to see them through effectively,” he added.
He urged the people of the North East to continue supporting the federal government and security agencies in their efforts to achieve lasting peace. Buni also appealed to the APC North East Forum to endorse Tinubu for a second term to ensure the completion of his administration’s agenda.
Governor Zulum echoed Buni’s remarks, applauding Tinubu’s efforts in improving security across the region. He noted that peace is gradually returning to the North East, and backed the call for Tinubu’s re-election to sustain national progress across key sectors.
