Natasha: Akpabio’s aide petitions IGP over alleged hacking of account, defamation

Former Delta State Commissioner and Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to the Senate President, Mr. Kenny Okolugbo, has submitted a formal petition to the Inspector General of Police, urging an immediate investigation into what he described as a deliberate cyberattack and smear campaign aimed at damaging his reputation and misleading the public.

In the petition, Okolugbo alleged that his verified X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked and used to post false and defamatory statements falsely attributed to him.

He further claimed that the fabricated post was amplified by three well-known social media personalities—Tunde Ednut (@mazitundeednut), Rufai Oseni (@ruffydfire), and Adeola Fayehun (@adeolafayehun). According to Okolugbo, the influencers added additional falsehoods, including claims of phone cloning, manipulated voice recordings, and fictional meetings in London.

“These claims are completely false and contradicted by verified evidence,” he stated.

He also expressed concern over the coordinated nature of the attack, noting that the post was simultaneously shared by the influencers using similar wording and timing—suggesting a deliberate and organized disinformation effort.

Okolugbo believes the entire campaign was staged to lend undue credibility to accusations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan. He emphasized that the additional content circulated online went beyond the original hacked post, further demonstrating malicious intent to tarnish his image.

In his petition, Okolugbo requested the Nigeria Police Force to take the following actions:

  • Launch a thorough investigation into the hacking and impersonation of his verified social media account, citing breaches of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
  • Identify and prosecute all individuals involved in the forgery, defamation, and dissemination of false information.
  • Secure all relevant digital evidence from social media platforms and other service providers for forensic analysis.

He stressed that the issue is both a matter of public concern and personal integrity, calling on the police to respond promptly and decisively.

To support his claims, Okolugbo included travel records proving he had not traveled to London or any foreign destination in 2025, with his last visit to London being on November 5, 2024, and confirmed no such meetings occurred. He also provided printed copies of the alleged defamatory content to aid investigators.

As of the time of this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not publicly responded to the petition.
