EFCC Never Arrested Me, I Voluntarily Submitted Myself – Ex-NNPC CFO

Former Chief Finance Officer (CFO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Alhaji Umar Ajiyia Isa, has refuted media reports claiming he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He clarified that he willingly visited the commission on his own.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Isa dismissed the reports of his alleged arrest over fraud as entirely false. He emphasized that at no point was he apprehended by EFCC operatives regarding the alleged $7.2 billion linked to transactions at the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries.

“Contrary to what has been reported, I was not arrested over any $7.2 billion refinery fraud. I went to the EFCC voluntarily for questioning and returned home afterward,” the statement read. “Seeing these misleading stories in the media is truly disappointing.”

He added, “During my time at NNPCL, I served with integrity and left without any stain on my record. No allegations of fraud have ever been made against me. Those spreading false claims of arrest and detention are simply attempting to damage my reputation.”
