NNPC Alleges Coordinated Sabotage Campaign To Discredit Leadership

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has sounded the alarm over what it calls a growing, coordinated effort to discredit its leadership and disrupt its reform initiatives.

In a statement released on Friday, NNPC alleged that a network of individuals—both within and outside the organization—is behind a deliberate misinformation campaign aimed at undermining its push for transparency and accountability.

“NNPC Ltd. has uncovered a rising campaign of sabotage being carried out by a group of known and anonymous actors across various levels of the organization,” the statement read.

The company accused the group of spreading falsehoods and publishing fabricated stories to mislead the public, distract leadership, and weaken the morale of reform-driven staff and supporters.

“These false narratives are strategically crafted to derail our leadership and erode public trust, as well as to frustrate our ongoing reforms,” NNPC stated.

Describing the campaign as a desperate move by those opposed to change, the company linked the attacks to its transformation agenda, which supports President Bola Tinubu’s anti-corruption and performance-driven vision for the oil and gas sector.

“This is a targeted attempt to sabotage the evolution of Nigeria’s leading energy firm,” the statement added. “We anticipate a rise in slanderous content in the coming days, but NNPC Ltd. remains focused. Our reforms are irreversible, and no amount of sabotage will halt our progress.”

The company urged its employees, stakeholders, and all well-meaning Nigerians to stay focused and ignore these distractions.

This development follows closely on the heels of a 10-day deadline issued by the Senate Committee on Public Accounts for NNPC to address audit queries relating to discrepancies in its financial records, including a reported N210 trillion gap in its recent audited accounts.
