IPOB lawyer fumes as gunmen invade meeting in Anambra, open fire on Ebonyi natives

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lead counsel for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has strongly denounced the killing of around 19 innocent individuals in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to a report by DAILY POST, unidentified gunmen stormed the area on Monday evening and opened fire during a meeting attended by some Ebonyi State residents, resulting in the death of at least 19 people. Preliminary reports suggest the attack may have stemmed from an internal dispute, as the assailants reportedly demanded the meeting minutes before launching the assault.

In a statement released Tuesday, Ejiofor condemned the attack as a horrific and senseless slaughter, emphasizing that the victims were mercilessly killed.

He described the act as a severe violation of fundamental human rights, including the right to life, freedom of movement, peaceful assembly, and the ability to live and engage in lawful activities anywhere in Nigeria. He said the killings were an outright attack on justice, unity, and peaceful coexistence.

Ejiofor urged the Anambra State authorities to ensure those responsible are arrested and prosecuted without delay, regardless of their status or any form of protection they might enjoy.

He also demanded transparency in the investigation process, stating, “We insist that the outcome of the investigations must not be concealed or compromised.”
