Achievers University Debunks Reports of Students’ Rustication Over Sex-Related Offences

Owo, Ondo State — Achievers University, Owo, has dismissed reports suggesting that it rusticated students over sex-related offences, describing such claims as false, misleading, and taken out of context.

The clarification was contained in a press statement issued by the University and signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs and Protocol, Mr. Olaniyi Adekanye, following media reports linked to remarks made during the institution’s 19th Matriculation Ceremony.

According to the statement, the management of Achievers University stated unequivocally that no student has ever been rusticated for sex-related offences since the establishment of the institution more than 18 years ago.

The University explained that comments made by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Bode Ayorinde, during the matriculation ceremony were historical and contextual, aimed at underscoring the institution’s long-standing emphasis on discipline, responsible conduct, and moral values.

“At no time did the remarks imply sex-related offences, any recent disciplinary incident, or mass expulsion of students,” the statement clarified.

Achievers University further emphasized that all disciplinary matters, whenever they arise, are handled on an individual basis, strictly in line with the approved Student Code of Conduct and through established due process. The institution stressed that fairness, transparency, and respect for students’ rights guide all disciplinary procedures.

Reaffirming its commitment to student welfare, the University noted that it prioritizes counselling, mentorship, and continuous orientation programmes to guide students toward responsible behaviour. This support, the statement added, also extends to promoting appropriate conduct in the digital space, particularly in an era of increased social media usage.

The management expressed appreciation to stakeholders and members of the media for their interest in the affairs of the University and urged journalists and the public to verify information through official communication channels to avoid the spread of misinformation.

Achievers University reiterated its dedication to maintaining a disciplined, morally upright, and supportive academic environment that fosters both academic excellence and character development.
