Nnamdi Kanu finally meets legal team as DSS DG lifts restriction

Following considerable pressure, the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, has lifted restrictions on Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Kanu’s legal team, led by senior counsel Aloy Ejimakor, recently visited him at the DSS facility in Abuja. According to Ejimakor, intervention by House of Representatives member Obi Aguocha from the Ikwuano, Umuahia North and South Federal constituency, played a key role in having the restriction lifted.

In a post on X, Ejimakor wrote: “Today, following orders from the DG DSS, the #MnkLegalTeam had its first successful visit with MAZI NNAMDI KANU since September 27. Mazi Ndidi Awurum, who traveled from the US, joined us. Our persistent legal actions and Hon Obi Aguocha’s involvement were vital in achieving this.”

The DSS had initially barred Kanu from meeting with his legal team after he disrupted proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, requesting the removal of Justice Binta Nyako from his case. However, the court later ordered the DSS to lift the restriction, threatening jail time for the DSS Director General if the order was ignored.

During the standoff, Aguocha visited Kanu on October 24, 2024, at the DSS facility in Abuja. Afterward, he announced that he had resolved the restrictions imposed on Kanu by the DSS.
