A purported currency speculator named Mustapha Muhammad has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja.
The Commission announced this on its official Twitter account on Wednesday. The EFCC published a photo of a man who is said to have traded currencies. His name is Mustapha Naira.
The commission added that the arrest was made as part of their aim to eradicate all forms of economic sabotage, including those that involve the foreign currency market.
Statement from the EFCC: The EFCC claims that Mustapha was apprehended on Saturday in Abuja’s Wuse neighborhood.
“The EFCC has detained one Mustapha Muhammed alias Muaspaha Naira as part of its continuing drive to sanitize the foreign exchange market and cleanse it of speculators and all shades of economic saboteurs.” On Saturday, November 12, 2022, he was hauled up by commission agents at Wuse Zone 4, the center of the Federal Capital Territory’s parallel market activity.
